PSA: Public Service Announcement
Might not look like much, but a whole inch of shrinkage over the width of fabric is kind of a big deal and would probably affect the finished product you were making with it.
the other reason to preshrink is to get the formaldehyde fumes out of your house.
You are welcome.
(decals are on the pink machine an I am working on the blog post now.)
Wow, big shrinkage! But I'm pleased to see you do something I always do - overlock the edges before washing. I've always thought I was a bit of a control freak doing that ;)
ReplyDeleteit's faster to overlock (serge) beforehand than to disentangle and trim all the frayed edges afterwards.
DeleteOver the past couple of years, I've had problems with color bleeding on quilt store fabrics. I prewash all my fabrics, just in case.
ReplyDeleteI have multiple allergies so I prewash and dry all fabric when it enters my house. Flipping the fabric as it's cut and folded can trigger an asthma attack.
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree! It shrinks both ways, to say nothing of the bleeding and the fumes.
ReplyDeleteTo add to the conversation, I have a quilting friend who has spent many years working for a large shipping company. She said if you could see the filth on shipping docks and what nasty things come crawling out of shipping containers you would disinfect everything that comes into your house, as well as washing your fabrics!
