BANNED from the vintage Kenmore yahoo group!

Wowzer!  I posted a message a couple of days ago to the vintage kenmore yahoo group and suddenly stopped getting the digest.  Today I went to the homepage and learned that I have been BANNED from the board.

Now I have NO idea why.  Several months ago I included my blog URL after my signature, and was told that this was against the rules.  So I apologized to the moderator and never did it again.

Recently I tried to post a message saying that I could not open a file on this board, and asked for help.  It had an rar at the end instead of the pdf that all the other files had.  I did not whine or complain in any way.  I just asked for help.  And I got banned.

Anybody have any ideas about this?

I'm not majorly a Kenmore girl, so this won't hurt me too badly.  But it would be nice to know what I did wrong, and I now have no way to contact them to ask why.

  1. How strange. I've included a link to my blog before. Of course, I haven't posted hardly at all. The last post for you that I could find was from Dec 20th. Maybe you can re-apply and ask her that way. Some of these site owners are overly picky about stuff. Sorry. I'll be happy to post any questions that you might want to ask, or forward the digest to you.

  2. I was "spanked" too for adding my blog url to a post. I have not been banned. I don't think. But I think I will quit in solidarity. No reason to ban you. You are such a nice person compared to some of the trash talking folk on WEFIXIT and no one bans them.

  3. I got in trouble on the Singer group for calling the "motor pedal or whatever" a toe pedal. Wow was I chewed out! I felt so stupid I never get on there anymore. The funny thing is that at the time I was refurbing them left and right and selling them on ebay. I had been doing that for six years. I think because I am from the South it seemed alright to call the thing a toe pedal because that's what my Momma called it. lol Too dramatic for me. I think I do better with blogging and pinterest. I try to keep my nose clean and stay out of trouble. Not sure why it hurt my feelings like it did but it did... I guess I am not used to being talked to like I am still a little gal. But its their site so what ever they want I guess. Good luck with your problem but know its a hard world out there, even in the sewing realm I guess.

  4. That is so shocking and yet not. I've had some run-ins on some of those lists with people who just like to complain or who like to prove they are in charge and think they are more knowledgeable than anyone else will ever be--when it seems more likely they just have a really mean streak.
I got in trouble on the quilt board because someone said I had posted my url illegally. The truth is I joined the quilt board because I was getting huge numbers of hits from there--because they'd post questions about my blog on their board instead of asking me--and then talk about how I got patterns from other people when they were my own patterns or copied from antique quilts. Of course, they couldn't possibly ask me so I could reply, could they?
Sadly, there are a lot of mean people around who aren't nearly as productive as the nice ones.
Sorry you were banned, but I'm glad you're one of the good people!

    1. Of the 88 machines here, only 3 are Kenmores, so I will survive. It's really kind of funny because I know I didn't do anything wrong. Apparently I broke some kind of rule, but who knows what?

Sorry you had problems too. I mostly enjoy the sewing machine related boards because of the overall level of courtesy. Long time ago I was on some science fiction boards and had to quit reading them because of language and hatefulness.

  5. I rarely post anything. I rarely get answered if i do. These groups make me feel like a nobody, but i join to search the files and learn. If someone asks a question and I think I can help, I email the person and we correspond outside the group. I think the moderators are too anal. I belong to two kenmore groups. Who is the moderator on the group who kicked you out? Maybe I can find her email for you.

    1. Thanks for the offer, but although I am curious, I would just as soon leave it alone. What two groups are you on? Maybe I will join the other one. The one I was on was moderated by Grannie Annie (I think that was the name).

  6. oh, lordy. what nonsense. I can only echo what everyone else is saying, that you are a lovely, helpful person and those groups seems to attract trouble. I rarely post anywhere, anymore, as it seems like a risky business!

  7. I know who moderates that group and there are a few of us that have been banned simply because we disagreed with her on inconsequential stuff. I could tell you stories - but I think she needs some serious "help"..... ;)

  9. I'm so sorry that happened to you! You are one of the nicest people on the whole Internet, and you are always very kind to share your experiences and knowledge. I always learn something new from you. It's that woman's loss if she can't recognise what a valuable resource you are! Kindest regards, Dianne B. in England :)

    1. Thank you, Dianne. I really doubt that I am "one of the nicest people on the whole internet" though! How many billions of us are on now? But it is a lovely thought that I will cherish.

  10. I got in trouble on that board too. I dared to change my selection to "web only" so I would not be drowned in a sea of posts and replies. Much better to be able to go and look at them when I want, but not have them clogging my inbox. Cranky moderator, to be sure. You are not alone, and hey, I'm a nice person on the internet too. In person, I'm terrible. ;-)

  11. I posted a series of pictures of my Kenmore machines (about 15) and the owner of this same group (from which you were banned) wrote me a personal e-mail asking me not to post pictures that I simply copy/pasted from the web and *dishonestly* claim them as my own. My pictures were removed. Can you believe it? I replied, explaining that these are all my own machines (notice the similar backgrounds, similar picture style, etc.). I was civil but not friendly at all. She wrote back saying she didn't mean to offend or to imply that I was lying and that she wanted to use one of the pictures for the group's home page. I refused -- civilly, but not friendly.

I'm still a member but only for the Files section of the group. I never post messages.

I want to hear from all of you who want to talk about sewing and sewing machines, so please leave a comment. I will be approving all the posts before they go public. This will weed out all the people who just want to sell you something. Or worse, capture you and use your info for nefarious purposes.
